Tony’s Favourite Monthly Finds | September 2023
Some pieces of media and other things I enjoyed a great amount of time on this month. A mixed bag of games, shows, reads, music and other stuff.
Hello and welcome to September FMF! It’s a little overdue, to be honest, but still better late than never! 💜 Please enjoy this month’s recommendations!
Movies
“A chance encounter between two girls of the same name, ‘Nana,’ triggers a series of events and relationships.” (IMDb)
Nana (Live Action - 2005) - If you’ve read the manga and watched the anime, you should also check out the live-action film! My bestie Regina and I are so terribly in love with this series. This is a deeply moving coming-of-age story that tackles themes of love, friendship, dreams, and expectations. I have yet to check out the sequel and like many others, am awaiting the day when the author will pick up from where she left off in the manga.
Shows
“In a seafaring world, a young pirate captain sets out with his crew to attain the title of Pirate King, and to discover the mythical treasure known as ‘One Piece.’” (IMDb)
One Piece Live Action (Netflix Series) - I think I speak for nearly everyone when I say this is one of the best renditions of the anime. A lot of fans had their doubts, but with the author involved in the production of this series, there was surely no way this would flop! The show didn’t disappoint and I’m really glad I watched it. Some artistic liberties were taken with the show, but it didn’t take away much from the original storyline.
One Piece was something one of my exes introduced to me and I still have a deep love for it though I’m not completely in the loop with what’s currently happening in the manga and anime.
I am certainly anticipating how the series will handle Season 2 and the introduction of Chopper!
Anime
“Pokémon: Paldean Winds is set in the Paldea region and tells the story of three academy students—Ohara, Aliquis, and Hohma—as they pursue their respective dreams.
The first episode features Ohara, a flutist, as she prepares for an upcoming concert. Can Ohara overcome her nerves with her partner Pokémon, Fuecoco, at her side?” (pokemon.com)
Pokemon: Paldean Winds - I am still high with excitement for Pokemon Scarlet, which I have only recently put down to focus on other pursuits. The web series only has one episode so far but it has been a delight to watch! The art is lovely and it kind of makes me feel nostalgic for school days I’ve never really experienced.
Reads
“A chance encounter. A handsome soldier. A beautiful woman. A tentative love affair smolders on the snowy cobblestone streets, out of sight of those that might keep them apart.” (Anilist)
Veil by Kotteri! - I always trust my cousin Sam to recommend me some lovely reads and anime. Veil is unlike anything I’ve read so far and the art is just drop-dead gorgeous! The artist’s visual storytelling is stimulating and I feel like I’m being pulled into the scenes just by reading. A worthwhile read if you’re into slow-burn stories. As for me, I’m foaming in the mouth at how unbearably slow their romance is going!

Music
If Taylor Swift’s ‘Lover’ Was An Emo Anthem (Lover Cover) - Alex Melton
My Sails Are Set - AURORA
Last Time I Saw You - Nicki Minaj
Bawat Daan - Ebe Dancel - Something my bestie Regina unknowingly recommended to me in between our conversations about being sappy lover girls. This song perfectly embodies the feeling of finally having found a love that makes you feel safe and heard, after how many twists and turns taken.
Show Me Your Phone - MAISONdes - This is probably every bored girlfriend’s anthem lol.
Rondo-Revolution (Cover) - Studio Alf
more than words - Hitsujibungaku - This is JJK S2’s second ending (Shibuya Arc ED). I vibe with this a lot, but in terms of tearjerkers, nothing really beats S1 ED2.
Glamorous Sky - Mika Nakashima - From the Nana Live Action OST.
Shape of Your Love - Anna Tsuchiya - Totally unrelated to the Nana series yet it also fits in just well. This was a happy discovery I made while shuffling through YouTube.
My Love - Austin Farwell
September has been ridiculously busy and my priorities are all over the place at the moment lol not to mention that I am also working on some creative writing. I feel like I need to step back a little and consider all of my passion projects equally. (That also means I need to stop hyperfixating on one single thing…)
October has started and I feel like it’s going to be another busy month! 💙 I’ll be celebrating two years with Rex this month, too, so that’s something I’m incredibly happy about! I am looking forward to watching more movies with him and hearing his insights about every single one. 💙
…And I know October just started, but I’ve already watched a few good anime starting this season! I’m looking forward to sharing and writing about it later this month. 💙
