Tony’s Favourite Monthly Finds | October 2023
Some pieces of media and other things I enjoyed a great amount of time on this month. A mixed bag of games, shows, reads, music and other stuff.
Hello, friends! Welcome to October FMF! 💙 Again, a little late but better than never! I actually watched, read, and listened to a lot of different things this month, so I hope you find a worthwhile recommendation here! 🌻
Movies

“Barbie and Ken are having the time of their lives in the colorful and seemingly perfect world of Barbie Land. However, when they get a chance to go to the real world, they soon discover the joys and perils of living among humans.”
Barbie - I have so many feelings about this movie and all I can say is I’m SO glad I let my FOMO win. This was such a treat to watch, especially since it tackles Barbie’s existential crisis and her internal struggle about her purpose, as well as the expectations placed on women in a patriarchal society.
“A tiny nymph found inside a bamboo stalk grows into a beautiful and desirable young woman. She orders her suitors to prove their love by completing a series of near-impossible tasks.”
The Tale of The Princess Kaguya (2013 Ghibli Film)
“In 1956 France, a priest is violently murdered, and Sister Irene begins to investigate. She once again comes face-to-face with a powerful evil.”
The Nun II - Something I watched with my dad in time for the spooky month. I love The Nun’s exploration of faith and supernatural forces.
Anime

I am once again back in ongoing anime limbo… So many good anime this season!
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, MF Ghost, Undead Unluck, Migi & Dali, The Apothecary Diaries, Ron Kamonohashi’s Forbidden Deductions, The Yuzuki Family’s Four Sons… I’d probably watch more if I found anything else worthwhile, but we’re sticking to these for now.
Reads
Lots of cute manga and webtoons from this month, too!
Kagurabachi (Action & Drama, ongoing)
The Summer Hikaru Died (Horror, Mystery, Psychological, Supernatural & Thriller, Ongoing)
A Man and His Cat (Drama & Slice of Life, Ongoing)
Sensitive Boy (Drama & Romance, TW: Sexual assault, ongoing)
All Colors of Snow (Romance, Historical, ongoing) - Read on Webtoon.
If you’re interested in checking out more of my recommended anime and manga titles this month, you can refer to my Anilist.
Music
Running Start and Shit Talk - Sufjan Stevens - I have different feelings for these two songs, simply because they are polar opposites. A Running Start speaks of the beauty of love and connections while Shit Talk speaks of separations from those you love. (I teared up while listening to the latter. I think it’s scary how I relate to it, even though it isn’t my relationship.)
It’s Me & You - Tokyo Tea Room
Fantasy - Alina Baraz & Galimatias - Gorgeous bedtime anthem lol.
My Love Mine All Mine - Mitski - WELL as a lover girl, you can’t expect me not to like this so much because my love is mine all mine, all right.
What Was I Made For? - Billie Eilish - From the Barbie OST. This perfectly encapsulates the feeling of going through it. (A quarter-life crisis, perhaps lol.)
1989 (Taylor’s Version) - I have nothing but immense love for Taylor. Special mention to her Vault song “Slut!” because… it just gets me. I hope she and Travis work out! His masculine energy and her feminine charm blend so well. 💙
Despite October’s busyness, I managed to watch and read a lot… Or maybe that’s just me trying to prevent the chance of a thought occurring. (LOL) It’s been a lovely month and I hope the rest of the end of the year goes by just as pleasantly, both for you and for me. 🌻
